Miyazaki Prefecture, located in the southwest of Kyushu Island, has a mild climate. Since it faces the Pacific Ocean, you can enjoy many marine sports in the summer. During the winter, it is home to the southernmost ski resort in Japan, where you can enjoy winter sports. Various sites in Miyazaki Prefecture appear in myths and legends. Kagura is a traditional performing art that still remains today and there are many attractive historical sites for tourists, such as the Saitobaru Burial Mounds. Miyazaki also attracts people with its variety of agricultural products cultivated in the warm climate, including fully ripe mangos, cucumbers and green peppers, as well as its farm products such as local chicken and Miyazaki beef and many other specialties.
Many flowers bloom in Miyazaki, where a variety of events are held at various sites. Among them, the Flower Festa welcomes many visitors every year. You can also enjoy the abundant blessings of nature, with the numerous fruits of the harvest.
Miyazaki faces the Pacific Ocean and features many surfing spots to enjoy surfing in the summer. "Hiyajiru," known as a local Miyazaki specialty, represents the typical festival atmosphere.
Autumn in Miyazaki is colored by golf. Two major national golf tournaments are held here, including the Dunlop Phoenix Tournament, where Tiger Woods once played.
Even in a tropical land, you can enjoy skiing and snowboarding at the Gokase Highland Ski Resort, Japan's southernmost ski resort. Miyazaki is also famous for sengiri daikon (dried shredded white radish), boasting one of the highest production levels in Japan. This specialty is produced by outdoor drying during the sunny days of the dry and cold winter.
